Kimberly Morio, DDS, is a native Iowan, having grown up in Solon, IA near Cedar Rapids. She loves helping patients in her community and thrives in the type of tight-knit, supportive community that Hiawatha offers. Dr. Morio began her journey as a healthcare provider at the age of 15 when she became a nursing assistant. She continued to be a nursing assistant throughout high school and college, traveling to various nursing homes, honing her skills as a healthcare professional. At the University of Iowa, Dr. Morio worked in the university emergency room, where her interest in medicine grew, and with the support of her school mentors, she was guided in the direction of dental school. After serving in the United States Air Force for three years, she was offered a scholarship to dental school, where she was introduced to the intricate and hands-on specialty of endodontics. After practicing general dentistry for several years, she decided to complete an endodontics residency to become a specialist in endodontics and receive her Master of Science in Oral Sciences.
Dr. Morio continues to love her work as an endodontist completing the intricate, precise work it takes to get patients out of discomfort while saving their natural teeth. She is rewarded every day by the transformations she sees when her patients walk out of her office comfortable and happy. In fact, many of her patients leave her chair saying, “That was actually fun!”
As the only endodontist in Iowa that provides sedation as an option, Dr. Morio can help a wider range of patients, including those who are nervous about dental care. She would like her patients to know that she is passionate about providing an instant feeling of ease and trust so that each patient has a positive endodontic experience every time. Apex Endodontics is a joyful place with an incredible team that works together with a sense of true comradery to heal our patients’ natural teeth for a lifetime!
For her undergraduate studies in Exercise Science, Dr. Morio attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City, graduating in 2003. Dr. Morio continued at the University of Iowa for Dental school. Her endodontics residency followed, and she then went on to receive her Master of Science in Oral Sciences to become an Endodontics specialist, graduating from the University of Iowa in 2013.
Dr. Morio lives with her husband, an oral surgeon, and their four sons. She loves spending time with her family when she is not at Apex Endodontics treating her patients or serving as Deputy Regent for the International College of Dentists. As a veteran, Dr. Morio is very interested in helping her fellow vets — she is actively looking at partnering with the Wounded Warrior project.
